Advancing Fiscally Sponsored Artists & Arts Projects

RESEARCH : dance/nyc

Working with Dance/NYC via funding from New York Community Trust, this year-long research project assessed the characteristics, needs, and opportunities of New York City’s vast segment of fiscally sponsored artists and projects.

The project involved collecting, organizing, and normalizing data from nine fiscal sponsors.

It also involved developing, issuing, marketing, and analyzing results of survey protocol issued to thousands of individuals that led or have been involved in fiscally sponsored projects in NYC.

The analysis compared the results to previously collected data on dance workforce demographics as well as broader datasets.

The subsequent report provided specific and practical recommendations to advance fiscally sponsored artists and projects in the city.

These results were shared and discussed through a public forum of over 100 attendees and informed New York City’s recently released cultural plan. As part of this work, we also completed focused analysis and reporting on fiscally sponsored dance makers and immigrant artists.
